Every day I wake up and ask myself:

“How do I make us happier, healthier, and wealthier?”

Economic Development     ★     Social Advancement     ★     Political Leadership

Good Jobs

  • Attract more businesses to compete for workers, which will raise wages across all types of jobs while also lowering the property tax burden on Arlington residents.
  • Create workforce development initiatives and incentives for both young and old that provide relevant skills and professional certifications for today’s job openings.
  • Retain and grow government and military office tenants that employ at least a quarter of Arlington workers.

Affordable Housing

  • Build up tall, dense housing along our transportation corridors; blend smaller multi-unit (‘missing middle’) housing into our single family neighborhoods; do not radically disrupt our existing communities.
  • Adopt a regional approach to housing solutions beyond the 26 square miles of Arlington.  For example, extending the Silver Line (Washington Metro) to Dulles International Airport will open up new living and transit options in the region.
  • Encourage businesses and organizations to embrace more teleworking options so that people can work from (and live) anywhere in the world, thus immediately reducing our congestion and density demands without cost.

Fast Transportation

  • Invest in infrastructure and transit so that you can walk, bike, ride, or drive quickly and safely.
  • Enhance bus and train service.
  • Prepare for a future of more ride sharing, autonomous vehicles, and other technological innovations such as dockless bicycles.

Strong Schools

  • Find education spaces for our rapidly growing student population anywhere possible.
  • Keep pay and benefits competitive for Arlington’s educators. I want them to be able to live in the community they serve.
  • Encourage soft ‘people’ skills in our children so that they grow into adaptable, resilient adults no matter what the 21st century looks like.  Technology is not always the answer!

Security and Safety

  • Protect our community from increasingly dangerous cyber threats by ensuring the county workforce is properly staffed and trained.
  • Keep pay and benefits competitive for Arlington’s firefighters, police, and other first responders.  I want them to be able to live in the community they serve.

Service to the Community

  • Create a civic identity and pride in living in a unique County in a unique Commonwealth in a unique Country!
  • Grow a corps of community servicemembers that bring crowds to civic associations, citizen advisory committees, and neighborhood groups.  There is much change and need in our own backyard.  Get to know your neighbors.
  • Local First.  There are plenty of arts and entertainment to enjoy in Arlington without crossing the river into DC!
